Three ceramic vases pictured from the side and slightly above. The vases are lumpy and uneven, varying in size from two- to three-inches in diameter and four- to six-inches tall. The vase on the left is tallest with a wide rim and narrow bottom and features a glossy vanilla dip glaze that stops unevenly about one-third of the way down. The middle-third features a dark-blue underglaze and the bottom light-blue. The middle vase is shorter than the first and candelabra-shaped, with a wide rim and two narrower bumps beneath. The top-third features a glossy, medium-blue dip glaze, the bottom a thinly-applied light-blue underglaze that reveals the red clay body underneath in places. The bottom two-thirds also feature a carved spiral pattern winding around the sides. The third vase is the shortest and has the straightest walls. Its top two-thirds features a metallic-blue dip glaze, the bottom a tangerine underglaze.

Since the holidays, I’ve been struggling to get back into the routine of making and posting art. Sometimes you just have to post your L’s, by which I mean lumpy clay pieces! Here are the first three pieces I threw on a wheel. When my instructor saw them, she said I “certainly have a style.” A lumpy clay style, obviously, and it’s fresh to death!
