Colored-marker drawing of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, a DC Comics character from the Silver Age. Jordan is drawn in an exaggerated, almost grotesque fashion, looking at his power ring as he floats in space. His mouth is open and head tilted back, exposing the underside of his nose, something comic-book artist and Hal Jordan co-creator Gil Kane was known for drawing often and well.

“The Gil Kane Special.” Colored marker on paper, PhotoShop; 9 x 12”. Gil Kane was one of the great comic book artists of the Silver and Bronze Ages, helping to create Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner, Iron Fist, Morbius, and the Abomination, and updating characters such as the Atom, Captain Marvel, and Adam Warlock. Besides being an amazing talent and creative force, he was really good at drawing upshots of characters’ noses, something that is not easy to do! While my Green Lantern is far more grotesque than anything Kane would draw, he does have that upturned nose!
